Interesting... we'll have to see how this pans out and if it holds up.

I gotta tell ya - I read the article and accompanying memo and it seems to me that Drudge is making a mountain out of a molehill. Even if the memo is, in fact, valid, it only seems to be saying that "equal treatment" is not the end. It is a means to the greater end of providing the voting public good, solid information and analysis. Thus, the writer tells the staff not to strain "artificially" and unduly for "equal treatment" as if it were the goal itself. If the journalistic "end" of vigorous discovery and presentation of truth is not served by forced (i.e. artificial) equal treatment, then the staff should not get hung up on it. He may be treading on thin ice with the memo, but his point is valid and certainly not indicative of some left-wing conspiracy.
This reminds me of the Drudge Report's recent "breaking" of the story that Kerry might have cheated in the first debate. *Cue "A Current Affair" music* "Next, video of John Kerry taking something out of his pocket. Is John Kerry a cheater? We'll ask our expert panel when we return with 'Fuzzy object: Handkerchief or Cheatsheet?'" Sorry Drudge, try again.
WELL... that's one way to interpret that memo. :)
You could tell Drudge was hoping that Kerry had pulled something other than a black pen out of pocket. However, this memo is something a little more real than a fuzzy, hard to see video.
It looks like Drudge isn't the only one floating out senseless rumors.
